Les-Lèves-et-Thoumeyragues
L'Art de Vivre is the
centrepiece in the small
bourg of Les Lèves in the
Gironde, bordering on the
department of the Dordogne. The village is located on the St James
(Santiago) pilgrimage route to Compostela. The actual name of the village refers to two
towns, Les Lèves and Thoumeyragues. Les Lèves is the bigger of the two
towns and houses a post office, a primary school, a pony club, a petrol
station which doubles as a grocery store and tobacconist, a large wine
cooperative and one of the regions finest bakeries. The centrepiece of the
village is a beautiful church which has recently been restored. L'Art de
Vivre faces the church on one side and the bakery on the other.
Thoumeyragues is at
present not much of a village with just a small church and a handful of
scattered properties of which the most remarkable is the Chateau Les
Vergnes. This Chateau used to belong to the Maréchal Leclerc de
Hautecloque family and its descendants. Its 120 acres of vines currently
produce some of the world’s top medal winning wines.
Some may call Les
Lèves-et-Thoumeyragues a dreamy place but for us it is a haven in a world
where time seems to pass you at a pace that is hard to keep track of.
Enjoy a stroll through the village, the endless vineyards, the chateaux
gardens and the woodlands or along some of the country lanes. Enjoy the
flora and fauna, enjoy the climate, enjoy everything around you, enjoy
life; L'Art de Vivre.
