Les Lèves is located in the
heart of the Appelation Ste Foy Bordeaux wine region, 7 km from the old
Bastide town of Ste Foy la Grande on the banks of the Dordogne river. All
amenities, banks, cafes, restaurants, hospitals and the main regional tourist office can be found
here. Ste Foy la Grande is famous for its fantastic Farmers Market every
Saturday morning.
L'Art de Vivre in an ideal spot to explore the beautiful contrasting
countryside of the region. To the north lies the mature 'Landes' forest, to
the west approximately 35kms you will find the stunning mediaeval town of St
Emilion which was recently added to UNESCO's World Heritage list,
with some of the most celebrated wines of France. Within an hour you will be
in the centre of Bordeaux (67 kms). To the east follow the
Dordogne river past the lovely old town of Bergerac (21kms) to the the
hilltop castles and spectacular views. To the south the rolling hills offer
mile after mile of superb views and endless vineyards interspersed with the
odd windmill and occasional lake.
You can do as much or as
little as you want, there is something for everyone. This is a beautiful
part of France with a very nice climate. It offers thousands of places to
visit including Chateaus, Bastide- Towns, Gardens, Caves filled with
prehistoric paintings and many restaurants specialising in the traditional
Perigord cuisine. We have no doubts that the true 'art of living' was
invented in this region.
Other activities in the immediate area include: fishing (A holiday
licence costs 30 Euros and grants 15 days permission to fish anywhere on the
Dordogne), lakes offering beaches and leisure activities (Lac de Gurson),
bird-watching, walking, cycling, canoeing & kayaking, tennis, horse riding,
go-karting, quad biking, paintball, hot air ballooning, gliding and
parachuting.
The stunning beaches of the Atlantic coast are approximately 1½ hours by
car. Whilst in the area a visit to the Dune de Pyla, the largest sand dune
in Europe is highly recommended. Other options are Cap Ferret, Montalivet,
Medoc, the Gironde Delta and Bordeaux. Or if you prefer heading land
inwards; Beynac, Sarlat, the Aquarium du Perigord Noir and even the Pyrenee
mountians are an option for a day trip.
